CreateTheater’s Musical Development Workshops are dynamic, online sessions designed to help musical theatre writers move their work forward with clarity, confidence, and industry insight.
Each workshop features a panel of NYC-based industry professionals— producers, directors, composers, librettists and BMI faculty —who will respond to your work in real time. Writers will present a 10-minute integrated scene and song from a musical in development, read by actors and supported by high-quality demo materials. Each presentation is followed by 20 minutes of focused, actionable feedback from the panel.
In addition to the presentations, participants will engage in two targeted teaching sessions covering key elements of musical storytelling. This workshop also functions as a dedicated networking session, giving you the opportunity to connect directly with industry professionals as well as fellow creators.
In this workshop, you will:
- Present and pitch your work to experienced, award-winning industry professionals
- Receive specific, constructive feedback to advance your musical
- Gain specific insights into what your libretto, your lyrics and your song may need
- Build meaningful relationships with collaborators and decision-makers
- Observe other projects in development and learn from their feedback
Whether you choose to present or attend as an observer, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to test new material, learn storytelling structure, and build connections within the professional musical theatre community.
