SMASH It! Musical Development Workshops

 

CreateTheater’s SMASH It! Musical Workshops will be held in front of a live industry audience in NYC, with your actors or local actors and music  directors. The workshop will include a 10 minute integrated scene/song presentation from new musicals currently in development, followed by 20 minutes of  feedback from the NYC Theater Industry panel.

We will have an open session for networking and chatting with everyone after the workshop ends.

In our workshops you will:
  • Present and pitch your song and scene to award-winning producers in a workshop setting and get feedback
  • Network with industry pros in a casual environment, and get them to engage with you and your work
  • Learn about what needs to happen in your libretto, and when
This is an excellent opportunity for networking with industry professionals, testing out new songs and scenes, previewing your work with professionals and finding professional talent to present your work. While it is suggested that the writers be present, we can present your work for you while you participate over Zoom.
Participation fee: $150 (talent stipends not included), $110 for ETC members
Observers: $35 non-members, FREE for ETC members
*Note: presentations are limited to 6 presentations per workshop.

Part 4: The Climax and The Message (December 8)

The climax is called ‘the obligatory scene” and is the highest point of emotion in your musical. Learn how to incorporate the three parts of a classical climax into your scene and make deliver over your message in the finale to send them home singing!

We’re specifically looking for 10 minute submissions of song and scene in the musical’s climax to the finale in this Fourth Workshop.

What we provide: For your workshop participation fee you will be able to participate in the entire SMASH IT! Workshop in person (or on Zoom), receive a 30 minute presentation slot (a 10 minute presentation of your work with 20 minutes of feedback), a teaching session, networking and engagement with our panel over food at the end. A piano is provided, but tracks are also accepted. You will be responsible for all presentation costs, including talent and music director. 

Workshop Participation fee: $110 ETC members, $150 non-members

Observer fee: FREE for ETC members, $35 non-members
