LIFE, UNDERGROUND by Fred Middendorf.
7pmEDT / 4pmPDT
How do you escape the suffocation of living life underground? Ryan and Justin have lived next door to Sebastian and Roderick for six years, but they remain relative strangers. Even their other neighbors, Zenith and her preteen son Logan and the widow Borbala, seem to know almost nothing about them. One spring night in 2016 forever changes all of that, raising questions, rattling relationships, and rupturing comfort zones. Life, Underground opens the curtain on an ordinary middle-class neighborhood in the Midwest to shed light on our fractured American culture by examining how internalized shame and trauma build walls of oppression between us, fuel the fires of mental illness and prejudice, and keep us from being ourselves and living in true community with one another.
